Bryer could never just walk past someone who was hurting.

Where most people saw a statistic or just another person sleeping on the pavement, caught in addiction, or battling their own mind; Bryer saw a brother or a sister. He saw someone with a story, a family who loved them, and undeniable worth in the eyes of God.

His heart for the streets didn't come from pity; it came from his own battle. Bryer walked through the heavy, quiet reality of addiction and co-occurring mental health challenges. He knew the isolation, the shame, and the sting of feeling written off by the world. Because he had walked through that darkness himself, he met people with an open heart and zero judgment.

Above all, Bryer loved Jesus with a passion that was completely contagious. It burned inside him, spreading like wildfire to anyone willing to listen.

Long before this ever had an official name, Bryer was out there doing the work with his own hands and feet. He'd sit down at the table to handwrite personal letters of encouragement, tucking them into blessing bags he and his family packed for those struggling with homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges. Bryer craved real, face-to-face connection. He'd pull up a spot on the curb, sit right outside a tent, listen to their stories, and remind them that where they were wasn't where they were going to stay. He looked people in the eye, prayed over them, and gave them real hope. He made sure they knew they were loved and not forgotten.

When Bryer passed, the grief tore through us. But then the stories started pouring in. People came forward from all walks of life, sharing how Bryer's words, kindness, and love had pulled them back from the edges of darkness. Hearing how his deep love for people and his fire for Jesus had ignited hope to so many, people began calling him "Wildfire."

That is how The Wildfire Mission came to exist. We want to make sure that Bryer's love for Jesus and his sharing of that love with everyone he crossed paths with, continues to burn in all of us.

We serve Oklahoma City and the surrounding communities by meeting people right where they are surviving. We don't wait for them to navigate bureaucratic red tape or hope for an open shelter bed. We head straight out under highway bridges, along curbs, and deep into the encampments. We place heavy-duty, weather-resistant Gallon Blessing Bags into their hands, look them in the eye, pray with them, and treat them with real, unconditional dignity. Exactly the way Bryer would.

Bryer showed us that even in the coldest and darkest of places, a little genuine love can catch like wildfire. But his hands and feet can't keep moving across this city without you.
